On this self drive tour you will travel across the mountains of Norway and down to the western coast through some of Norway´s most famous scenery.

Visit art nouveau Aalesund, olympic town Lillehammer, Lom and Oslo, and proceed at a leisurely pace taking in all the region has to offer. This tour has plenty of family friendly activities on offer along the way, making it a perfect family holiday.


Royal_Palace_in_OsloDay 1: Exploring the Norwegian Capital, Oslo

On arrival in Oslo, you will be met by a NordicVisitor representative and taken to your Oslo city centre hotel.


Depending on time of arrival you will have the chance to explore Oslo and some of its many sights. Visit the famous Vigeland Sculpture park or the Akershus Fortress, or just relax with a drink on the Aker Brygge Marina.

Spend the night in Oslo.


Day 2: Trolls and Fairytales in Jotunheimen

In your rental car, head north out of Oslo towards Fagernes. If you want to you can stop here and visit the Folk Museum, which offers insight into life in Norway in the old days.


From Fagernes, you start the ascent up the Jotunheimen National Park – where you will enjoy some amazing views of the mountains in Jotunheimen, where the trolls live.


Spend the night in picturesque Lom.

The area around Lom is a favoured spot for adventure and activities, anything from rafting to horse riding. The mountainous area has miles of stunning hiking trails.


To enable you to fully take in the stunning scenery here and all the activities on offer, you will spend another night in the Lom area.


Day 4: National Tourist Route over Sognefjell

Today you have two choices of route. The longer drive over Sognefjell was Norway´s first National Tourist Route, and offers truly amazing views along the way. The shorter option goes over Strynefjell, and is also listed as one of the National Tourist Routes in Norway.


Arriving in the charming village of Loen, after your longest drive of the tour, you will have the evening to relax in this beautiful setting. Spend the night in the Loen area.


Day 5: Glaciers of Norway

Another day where you can explore the area around Loen with your rental car or on an organised tour.


Loen is a great starting point for trips to one of the nearby glaciers, and there are many child friendly activities on offer such as fishing and swimming.


Spend another night in the Loen area.


geiranger-ornesvingenDay 6: The Geiranger Fjord

The Geiranger fjord is one of the ´must sees´ in Norway, and today you will be able to take it in at your own leisure, driving along, stopping whenever you want.


From Geiranger, a ferry will take you across the fjord to the village of Hellesylt where the drive continues into the architectural pearl that is Aalesund.


Spend the night in Aalesund.


Day 7: Art Nouveau Aalesund

Aalesund is a beautiful city built completely in art nouveau style, and makes for an interesting stroll.


Climb the 418 steps up to the Aksla town mountain and enjoy the view of this fairytale city out at sea.


There are also a range of other activities to enjoy in the area, including the Atlantic Sea Park, The Art Nouveau Centre, fishing trips and seal safaris.


Spend another night in Aalesund.


trollveggen-caravanDay 8: Trollveggen and Gudbrandsdalen

Today you will head back inland again, and make sure you stop at the famous Trollveggen.


This used to be a popular spot for base jumping, but is now very illegal. The views are amazing though.


As you make your way across the mountains east, you will drive through scenic Gudbrandsdalen on you way to the olympic city of Lillehammer.

Spend the night in Lillehammer.


Day 9: The Olympic Spirit in Lillehammer

Lillehammer hosted the 1994 olympic games and has loads to offer to its visitors.


Visit the Olympic Museum or the Maihaugen open-air museum as well as the olympic sites.


Hulderfossen Family Park is a great stop for families, with attractions based on Norwegian folklore and lots of Trolls.

The drive from Lillehammer to Oslo is only about 2,5 hours, so there is plenty of time to enjoy the area before heading back to the capital and your final overnight stay.


Day 10: Heading Home

Depending on your time of departure, you may have time to enjoy some more sightseeing in Oslo before taking the express train to Gardermoen Airport.
