More about the trip:

The historical Hurtigruten coastal cruise has been voted the most beautiful in the world. Travel from Bergen to Tromso through the famous Norwegian fjords and Lofoten islands on this fantastic 6 day package deal. See the northern lights and have a go at husky dog sledding in Tromso before returning to the UK.

Day 1: Arrival in Historical Bergen

Fly from London to Bergen and transfer to the port to embark your Hurtigruten ship heading north.

Bergen is a picturesque and historical city, with many famous sights such as the fish market and the UNESCO World Heritage site Bryggen. Read more about Bergen.

Aboard Hurtigruten you can enjoy the fantastic restaurant serving many Norwegian specialities, relax in the panorama lounges and enjoy the views from deck as the ship sails north along the coast.

Day 2: Fjordland and Aalesund

Hurtigruten sails through the night and makes several stops along the way through the famous fjordland on Norway's west coast.

The ship docks in the cozy town of Aalesund in the morning, where you will have the time to disembark and explore a little.

The town is famous for its Art Nouveau architecture.

Day 3: Trondheim and Into Northern Lights Territory

Hurtigruten sails into Norway's former capital, the ancient city of Trondheim, early in the morning.

You will have plenty of time to explore the town, visit the Nidaros Cathedral and stroll through the town centre, before the ship sails north again.

Although the northern lights sometimes can be seen further south in Norway, it is not until now that you really start to enter northern lights territory, so make sure you watch out in the evening.

The captain will often make announcements to the Hurtigruten passengers when northern lights can be seen, and it is not unheard of for the entire restaurant to empty mid-dinner as everyone rushes out on deck to watch the display.

Day 4: The Majestic Lofoten Islands and The Arctic Circle

As the Hurtigruten ship crosses the Arctic Circle there is a celebration on deck, and you can fully call yourself and Arctic Explorer.

The Lofoten islands are on the UNESCO World Heritage list with good reason. As Hurtigruten sails in to the port of Svolvaer in the evening, you will understand what all the fuss is about.

Tiny fishing villages tucked in under majestic mountains, right out at sea. In Svolvaer you have the chance to disembark the ship to explore the village and visit the ice sculpture gallery.

Make sure to keep your eyes out for the northern lights.

Day 5: Arrival in Tromso

The ship arrives in Tromso mid-afternoon, after a scenic voyage north from Lofoten.

Tromso is also called the Gateway to the Arctic, and is where most of the famous Arctic Explorers set out from in the past.

After checking in at your hotel, you will have the chance to explore the town, visit the Polaria centre, take a trip on the cable car or go on a northern lights husky dog sledding adventure. Read more about what to do in Tromso.

In the evening you can enjoy a meal in one of Tromso's many excellent restaurants or sample the lively nightlife.

Tromso is also one of the best places in the world to see the northern lights, so make sure you keep an eye on the skies!

Day 6: Returning Home

You will be transferred to the airport where you will catch your flight back to the UK.
