Norwegian airport chaos ends

Security Checks ResumeThe strike among security guards in Norway ended Sunday night as the parts came to an agreement.

Airports all over Norway descended into chaos last week when 2,500 security workers went on strike over pay increases.

Norwegian Airports Reopen

Last week saw many smaller airports in Norway forced to more or less close as a result of the strike.

At the busiest time of year, as the school holidays start this week, many people planning to go on holiday this week could breathe a sigh of relief.

Kristiansand, Haugesund, Forde, Volda, Molde, Kristiansund, Stokmarknes, Harstad, Lakselv and Hammerfest airports will reopen and return to normal now.

And long queues at Oslo Gardermoen and the other larger airports in Norway will go back to no more than normal summer holiday levels.

Pressure on Talks

Press contact for the Norwegian trade organisation, NHO, Petter Furulund, told VG.no there was pressure on this weekend talks to be successful, particularly because of the start of the school holidays.

“We felt a great responsibility towards everyone who`s going on holiday and anyone else affected by this. We felt that it would be near impossible to leave the talks without reaching an agreement, if we had, the strike would have lasted for weeks. That pressure meant that we agreed to issues we otherwise wouldn´t have. That said – we can live with it”, Furulund told VG.no.
