Areas to Stay in Oslo
Most of the hotels in Oslo are located in the streets around the main pedestrian street of Karl Johan, which runs from the royal palace, past the national theatre and the parliament, and continues down to the central station.
The areas around Aker Brygge is another nice place to stay, and is also only a 10 minute stroll from Karl Johan.
The hip and arty Grünerløkka, Oslo's answer to Notting Hill, and the posh stretch down Bogstadveien from Majorstuen to the palace are other areas worth mentioning.
Landmark Hotels in Oslo
Oslo´s architecture resembles Copenhagen, with many gorgeous townhouses from the mid-1800s.
Unfortunately, most of the larger hotels are in newer, nondescript buildings in the town centre, but you can still find hotels which will take you back to the days when Oslo was called Christiania.
Grand Hotel in Oslo
The most well known hotel in Oslo the Grand Hotel right across the road from the parliament was built in 1874, and has accommodated many famous guests during the years.

Clarion Collection Gabelshus
Another quirky hotel in the town centre is Gabelshus, set in a stunning large ivy-clad townhouse, about half a mile from the Royal Palace and Aker Brygge.
The price includes breakfast, pancakes for lunch and a simple buffet dinner, which is quite a scoop in Oslo. Check rates and see photos here.
Holmenkollen Park Hotel
Another “institution” in Oslo, the Holmenkollen Park Hotel, sits on the large hillside overlooking Oslo.
It doesn´t get more Norwegian than this. From the outside, the hotel is built like a grand wooden castle, with parts of the hotel dating back to 1894 and the period dubbed as “National Romantics”.
Amazing views of the city, with prepped ski slopes and stunning nature on your doorstep, this hotel will not be easily forgotten. See more pictures and check rates here.
