What to do in Tromso
You are spoilt for choice of things to do in Tromso – many of them things you will not have the chance to do many other places in the world.
So, a holiday in Tromso is definitely not for someone who just wants to sit by the pool (not that the weather would allow it anyway…)
Everything from whale safaris, to dog sledging, fishing, golf, and off piste skiing, Tromso has something for everyone.
Summer Activities
In the summer, the midnight sun makes it possible to be active 24 hours a day. Hiking, fishing, kayaking and mountain biking are only a few of the activities on offer.
Locals in Tromso make use of the nature around them, and there are plenty of hiking trails around Tromso, from child-friendly Varden on the island, to the more strenuous Tromsdalstinden on the mainland.
Winter Activities
In the winter there are plenty on offer too. Have a stab at cross country skiing in the lit tracks around Tromso, or settle into a sledge and let a group of 7 huskies take you into the mountains to watch the Northern Lights.
Tromso truly is a Mecca for nature lovers, and very few places in the world you will find such stunning scenery so close to a city. The cross country tracks and several of the mountains are literally within walking distance of the town centre.
After a day of activity and fresh air, a trip to one of the many bars and restaurants in Tromso is a must. Tromso is known for its hospitality and nightlife, and there’s nothing like a Mack beer after a long day in the mountains.
